Movie review

Ek Thi Daayan

Ek thi daayan is the directorial debut of Kannan Iyer and as it surprisingly goes with directorial debuts it’s a good one.

In a horror movie logic takes a back seat but if it is an entertaining tale there is no harm in a little supposition.

It is a movie about the folklore of witches seen from the point of view of Magician  Bobo (Emraan Hashmi),who is haunted by his past.

The movie is set in present day; hence it’s more relevant then most horror flicks that take you to the village or to a pre Victorian ear. The actors are good and the music is apt.

Aside frome Huma Qureshithe, who was average, actors were brilliant. Konkona Sen Sharma was remarkable as always. I find that child actors these Days are more promising then ever before. Vishesh Tiwari, has portrayed young Emraan marvelously. In my opinion, Kalki Koechlin has been wasted.

The first half is interesting enough for me to recommend the movie but the lesser your expectation from the second half the better.

The cinematography, screenplay and music are all good, special effects are good too.

The second half fails one’s expectations after the big buildup; a few tweaks in the screenplay could have worked.

The director has done a fine job. I believe Ek thi daayan is worth a watch.
