Movie review - Action Replayy vs. Do dooni chaar

Action Replayy vs. Do dooni chaar

Lets start with Action replayy.

I had walked into the hall wanting to have a good time and a few laughs but alas! the Indian movie industry.

This is a story of a young man, travelling back in time to save his parents marriage. The movie is a disaster from the word go. The terrible acting and poor dialogue delivery of Aditya Roy Kapoor (Bunty) were a turn off from the very first scene itself, making it all the more difficult to see the story from his point of view.

The time travel is not explained, but let’s not sweat about it in a Hindi movie, it is assumed that the audiences are to take a leap of faith. The 70s seemed like a genuine effort but would appeal more to the ones from that era.

The leads try to put up a sincere performance but the script falls short, Ashiwarya looks sensational and Akshay equally ghastly. Music is average and acting is okay but the problem is that there is no script, no humor and no sense in the movie.

The random references to celebrities of this era as jokes and no one questioning the young man calling people mum and dad are most absurd.

Do dooni chaar on the other hand was fun and refreshing .

The story of a middle class family, buying a car woven well and told well. Rishi Kapoor is splendid so is Neetu Kapoor, together they are remarkable.

The day to day anecdotes are captured aptly. Everyone in the movie acts well. There are clearly defined scenes with objective of taking the story forward. Even though there are some “filmy” scenes in the movie it was an uplifting, amusing, humorous and sometimes grim tale and intentionally. The aging working class hero is what I find most appealing.kudos to the debutant director Habib Faizal and everyone associated with the movie.
