Yeh jawani hai deewani (2013) [10/50]

Language: Hindi

Cast: Deepika Padukone, Ranbir Kapoor, Aditya Roy Kapoor, Kalki Koechlin.

Story: A love story of a “nerdy” girl with the hottest body and a globe trotting guy with little to no sense of balancing all aspects of his life, oh yes they have sulky friends. The movie in its first half is about a trekking trip and in its second half about a wedding.

Screenplay and direction: The direction is okay, the screenplay Blah.

Performances: Deepika Padukone and  Ranbir Kapoor act okay but Deepika doesn’t look the part and when they meet years later Rabir doesn’t look like he has aged. Aditya Roy Kapoor is blah and Kalki Koechlin is good in whatever role she has in the movie.

Interesting: Kalki Koechlin could be replaced by just about any girl. I don’t understand why she is being cast as nobody when she can act so well.

USP: Dialogues are funny, songs are catchy, costumes are colorful and bright and they break into well coordinated dances all the time.

Downside: What nerd doesn’t know how many Harry potter movies there are!! Sad that Deepika couldn’t look like a nerd to save her life. Kalki was wasted like water while brushing teeth. Aditya Roy Kapoor might as well be an alcoholic but mind you he wouldn’t be an actor no matter what. Movie is predictable and story is cliché. Why is Daggubati in the movie, is he so free as to just hang around hindi movie sets in hopes of a job?!

Verdict: Like I said movie is predictable and story is cliché, like love is all that matter. You can almost picture your demented classmate or neighbor aunty saying “ladka accha mil jaye toh yeh sab ghoomne phirne ki kya jaroorat hai” I mean why cant Bunny (no really that’s his name) find a girl with the same interest as him. And why doesn’t Deepika ware blouses. Oh! In the name of globe trotting they show you streets of Paris, I mean way to go to evoke empathy for the protagonist low budgeters. Ok never mind all that I didn’t get a headache watching the movie unfortunately that has become a plus point these days so yea I think its okay. Songs and dialogues save the movie so watch it.6/10
